Intel 80188

The Intel 80188 microprocessor was a variant of the Intel 80186. The 80188 had an 8-bit external data bus instead of the 16-bit bus of the 80186; this made it less expensive to connect to peripherals. The 16-bit registers and the one megabyte address range were unchanged, however. It had a throughput of 1 million instructions per second.

Features and performance

The 80188 series was generally intended for embedded systems, as microcontrollers with external memory. Therefore, to reduce the number of chips required, it included features such as clock generator, interrupt controller, timers, wait state generator, DMA channels, and external chip select lines. While the N80188 was compatible with the 8087 numerics co-processor, the 80C188 was not. It didn't have the ESC control codes integrated.

The initial clock rate of the 80188 was 6 MHz, but due to more hardware available for the microcode to use, especially for address calculation, many individual instructions ran faster than on an 8086 at the same clock frequency. For instance, the common register+immediateaddressing mode was significantly faster than on the 8086, especially when a memory location was both (one of the) operand(s) and the destination. Multiply and divide also showed great improvement, being several times as fast as on the original 8086 and multi-bit shifts were done almost four times as quickly as in the 8086.

To integrate the functions needed on a mainboard into a smaller amount of ICs, Intel licensed the ZyMOS POACH chipset for its Intel 80286 and Intel 80386SX processors (the 82230/82231 High Integration AT-Compatible Chip Set). This chipset can be used with an 82335 High-integration Interface Device to provide support for the Intel 386SX.

China (Tori Amos song)

"China" is a song by American singer-songwriter and musician Tori Amos. It was released as the third single from her debut studio album Little Earthquakes. It was released January 20, 1992 by Atlantic Records in the US and EastWest Records in the UK. It was the first song written for Little Earthquakes and was originally titled "Distance": a recurring lyric and theme in the song., It was also originally submitted to the Library of Congress in 1987.

Background

The song is often cited as one of Amos's least abstruse and most traditional ballads. It is a lament about lost love with lyrics like "Sometimes I think you want me to touch you/How can I when you build the great wall around you?" This particular lyric likely inspired the cover art of Amos standing at an upside-down teacup shaped wall. This visual theme also occurred in the music video, which showed Amos lamenting on a rocky beach in England.

This song did not take off very well as a single. When Amos's fame reached its peak in the mid-1990s, copies of the single often sold for $30–50, but now can be found on eBay for ten dollars or less. It was highly sought after because the B-side "Humpty Dumpty" was not released elsewhere, even on Amos's B-sides compilation More Pink: The B-Sides, nor on her retrospective boxed set A Piano: The Collection).

China (footballer, born 1964)

Carlos Alberto Gomes Kao Yien, commonly known as China (born December 9, 1964), is a retired Brazilian footballer who played as a right back for several Série A clubs.

Career

Born in Vitória, China started his career in 1983 with Rio Branco, playing four Série A games and winning the Campeonato Capixaba before being loaned to Brasília in 1985. With Brasília he played 16 games and scored three goals. He returned to Rio Branco in 1985, winning the Campeonato Capixaba again, and playing 16 Série A games and scoring two goals before leaving the club in 1988. China joined Inter de Limeira in 1989, playing 17 Série A games and scoring two goals for the club. He played 23 Série A games and scored two goals for Grêmio between 1990 and 1991. With Botafogo, China played five Série A games in 1993, and was part of the squad that won that edition of the Copa CONMEBOL. He defended Linhares from 1994 to 1996, winning the Campeonato Capixaba in 1995, and Avaí in 1999, before retiring.
